SAMI Agtech, in collaboration with several partners, has developed SAMI 4.0: a smart, multifunctional agricultural system designed to automate the harvesting of fruit and vegetables through the use of robotics, an advanced vision system and artificial intelligence (AI).

The modules developed by CRVI experts as part of this project enable the detection, classification and recording of the position of broccoli heads, either to take stock of them when they are not yet ready for harvest or to generate, in real time, robot trajectories so that the robots can carry out cutting and picking tasks, taking into account the movements of the tractor and the system between the moment of detection and the moment of picking.

Ultimately, the automation of harvesting will offer the benefits of saving on labour costs, increasing productivity, achieving better product quality and optimising the harvest based on the inventory of each field and weather conditions.
